Greetings! I am proud to embark on my twenty-fourth year of teaching Journalism classes at Elkhart ISD. It brings me immense joy to instruct yearbook courses and witness the students' blossoming passion for graphic design and journalism. My educational journey includes an associate's degree from Tyler Junior College, a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at Tyler, a Master of Arts Degree from the same institution, and a Ph.D.- ED from Northcentral University. These degrees have fortified my knowledge and dedication to the field of journalism. In the words of Henry Anatole Grunwald, "Journalism can never be silent: that is its greatest virtue and its greatest fault. It must speak and speak immediately, while the echoes of wonder, the claims of triumph, and the signs of horror are still in the air." Classroom Expectations: Respect and follow all instructions and classroom rules outlined by the teacher. Bring all necessary materials to class. Arrive on time and be seated when the bell rings. Demonstrate respect towards the teacher and fellow students. Engage actively in all activities, both within and outside the school setting. Students who uphold these principles shall receive positive recognition, commendable parental contact, and outstanding remarks on their grades. Conversely, those who choose to disregard these guidelines shall face appropriate consequences: First offense - A warning from the teacher. Second offense - A conference with the teacher. Third offense - Detention with the teacher. Fourth offense - A meeting with the administrator and/ or parental contact. Furthermore, we must strictly adhere to the following measures: Immediate referral to administration and parental contact for any student involved in activities that may endanger themselves or others. Prompt referral to administration and parental contact for any student engaged in suspension or expulsion actions outlined in the school handbook. Zero tolerance for bullying in any form - students who encounter such issues are encouraged to speak with Dr. Reece for support and resolution. The general class rules to follow are as follows: With the exception of teacher rewards, no food or drink is allowed in the classroom (water is permitted). Plan bathroom breaks between classes—two passes per week, and the last 10 minutes of class. Refrain from using cell phones, iPods, etc., unless granted permission by the teacher. Let us embark on a fruitful journey of learning and journalistic exploration together. I am excited to guide you toward the wonders of this field and help you unleash your potential as budding journalists and designers.
