hey guys guess what time it is it's time for some learning we're going to take a look guys in the next did the election of 1896 so far it's going to be really the emergence of the modern campaign system as well as the fourth protocol system really with a political parties that we know today so it's dial the clock back was put on our hats of learning and let's see if we go get her done here we go text but sure yeah you got understand some really basic stuff you should understand that this is really Republican dominance for baking 61 with the election of the Republican Abraham Lincoln to the election in 18 19 28 of Herbert Hoover that's 15 people that were elected president is only two Democrats send Mikey 12 and you have Grover Cleveland who won all times I'm going to say 1882 but I could be wrong but never the last this is the dominance of the Republican party is really the party of economic conservatism the party of big fish is the party of Alexander Hamilton the party venue facturing the party of tariffs the term protectionism and the party of gold this is really important that you understand that in the heart of American politics in 1890s is this the bait and mentalism which is really an argument between people that believe that we should be operating on a gold and silver standard in before 1873 with the coinage act of 1873 we pretty much were bimetallism that we valued silver without you called and that really leads to an increase pool of money that's more available at banks that loans can they get it out we're really monopolies and trusts and big business are going to favor the gold standard because there's more stability and gold they acquired most of the gold and really in terms of the international economic system is easier to trade in gold and silver is in value as much as kind of a big pain in the rear end so in 1893 is economic depression and most of the country at that I just really at least from the working on portion of the country the working class is really blaming the gold standard this is born out of the Grange which is the populist Party The People's movement and you have the Democratic party in disarray because where President Grover Cleveland is for the gold standard show in 1896 that's going to change because the Democrats for the first time are going to nominate a populist and that's going to realign that political party the 1896 election thanks Henry Littlefield all right so we set it on the Democratic side you really for a while had kind of disarray at the convention of 1896 nobody really knew what was what happened you had a certain constituency of economic conservatives these were Democratic bourbon iced Grover Cleveland the retired president was one of those so you had a constituency populace that were showing up that were sick of being at the third party influence this convention comes to this day he was the youngest man ever nominated I'm to be president he's a Nebraska night battle worth Nebraska night and he was a representative in Congress from Nebraska to failed nominee for the Senate but here we come to the convention with his hair on fire he was a really good or a tater tot a word he spoke really well words he's a big believer in out of morals and religion and he's the guy that becomes famous in the Scopes Monkey Trial which is Mega Millions results so he gives a speech is called the cross of gold speech so it's a big boy to being like it out King of the Hill so a little bit of that cross of gold speech right now you shall not crucify mankind across 86th the Democratic party is always really been the party of South and they've become a party really in the growth of urban centers in the north as really changing the way that politics works and really not representing more of the workers and farmers and that's this constituency the demographic William Jennings Bryan is going to hit upon big time and he's going to be the spokesman for the farmer William McKinley who's going to easily win the Republican National convention in 1896 his campaign is much different a William Jennings Bryan I think he traveled I'm going to say like 18,000 miles by train to talk to a few billion people everywhere because he's really great you know I guess across the Golden the other right never left his home and I think he was Canton Ohio or something huge name in political campaign operatives and what he's doing is he so if you give me a little money you know they change things here for you so it's really not quid pro quo but it's the first time that really millions of dollars are raised by going to corporations in order to run William McKinley's campaign I think he race $5000000 five times the amount of William Jennings Bryan who's passing a hat around at this at the podium so he's collecting his money issue a terrorist William McKinley is a republic pro-business he believes in economic protectionism so he's guarding the nation by taxing Goods that are coming in and that means that farmers populist people in cities are paying more when they go to Walmart used for reducing those barriers and it sends free trade goods to come in so people can get the best price and not really worry too much about the factories that might lose some business and this will change this will change when the Republican Party figured out imperialism refers more of a free trade policy but right now that's really the heart of the election next to the gold standard is the issue of Terror end up winning of course it's going to be William McKinley I think I had a couple things going for him first he really has you know the Northeast locked up that's you know still back to the Civil War Republican territory and he's able to convince railroad workers and Factory workers in the swing state the Midwest like in Indiana and Ohio that you know if you like this is where business owners would put signs up the day before election and they would say you know if William Jennings Bryan is elected don't come back to work tomorrow people were showing up for sure that he has a huge Bible guy huge kind of prohibition and back to morals and let's clean up America farmer values and he's really trying to appeal to Democrats that are living in Chicago and German American immigrants and Irish immigrants Hilliard thrilled with the prospect of having a viable Varner go to the white house so at the end of the day never sent it when James Brian isn't going to go away he's going to coming back and losing time and time again so that's pretty much it guys that's really the formation now in terms of populist and poor people in the working-class that are going to be supporting the Democratic party 1896 that's one for the books you can take a look at the Olympic College right there republicanism at West republicanism what a gold in California maybe that's why I'm really you know the west and the south is William Jennings Bryan and swing state right in the middle that are going to do him so giddy up for that guy can hope that you understand the election of 1896.
