English 1

I’m a first-generation college graduate who believes in the power of literacy because I’ve lived it. I graduated from Arlington Baptist University with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies and Biblical Studies.  The  biggest lesson I learned about education is that it takes grit and determination. We’ll be getting to know each other through stories, discussions, collaborations, but for now, my biggest values in life include my faith and family.

I believe that if you work hard, you will be successful. I encourage you to dig deep, accept the challenge, and take accountability for your own actions and work.

We are going to have a great year together. Let's get to work!

Policies & Procedures:

Bell Ringers: Every class will start with a short (5-10 min.) assignment. Students are expected to be in their seats working on the bell ringer before the tardy bell rings.

Daily Work: Daily work is due at the end of the class, and will be placed in the assignment drop box for whichever period the student is in.

Late Work: All late work that is turned in will receive no higher than a 70. Students have until the end of the school day to turn in the assignment before it is considered late.

Attendance: Attendance is extremely important. When you are absent, you miss important lessons and instructions making it ever so easy to fall behind.

Make-up Work: If a student is absent, the student is responsible for obtaining and making up any missing work. You have the same amount of days to complete the makeup work as you were absent. There is a folder near the front of the room that holds all make-up work to be done. Remember, you are responsible for asking for your missing assignments and turning them in when you return to school!

Grading System: Grading (per six weeks) will be based on the following:

  • 50% -- Daily- Class work, Bell Ringers, and Daily Quizzes
  • 30% -- Projects or Major Examinations. (Some essays will be included as well.)
  • 20%-- CBA (Six Weeks Exam)

Tardy: Students who are not in their seats working when the tardy bell rings are considered tardy. Constantly being tardy will result in disciplinary action according to district policy.
